Head to head
Pick Gemini if your work already lives in Google Workspace — it reads Gmail, Docs and Drive directly, and its paid tier is often bundled with storage you already buy. Pick Claude if the job is producing writing or code you intend to ship, where output typically needs less editing. Both handle very long inputs; Gemini's top tier accepts more, Claude tends to hold the thread better across what it is given.

Google Gemini ↗| Claude | Google Gemini | |
|---|---|---|
| Context window | Large, and reliable across the whole input. | The largest of the mainstream assistants at its top tier. |
| Office integration | None native — you paste or connect it. | Native across Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Drive. |
| Writing quality | Its most commonly cited strength. | Good, generally needs more editing. |
| Images & voice | Reads images; generates none. No voice mode. | Both. |
| Bundling | Standalone subscription. | Often included with a Google One plan. |
| Coding | Well regarded, with a terminal agent. | Capable, strongest inside Google's own tooling. |
Every comparison here says when the honest answer is "not this one". A page that can only recommend is an advertisement.
For writing and long-document work, most people prefer Claude. For anything touching Google Workspace, Gemini wins on integration alone. Neither is better across the board, and the honest deciding factor is usually where your files already are.
Gemini's top tiers accept the largest inputs of the mainstream assistants. Claude's is large too, and in practice how well a model uses long context matters more than the headline number.
There is a free tier. The stronger models and larger context sit behind a paid plan, which is usually bundled with Google One storage rather than sold on its own.
Not natively the way Gemini does. You can paste content in or use a connector, but if reading your Drive directly is the requirement, Gemini is built for it and Claude is not.
