You already pay for Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 — you may already have a capable assistant bundled.
You'd use it a few times a month. Both free tiers cover that.

Is Claude better than ChatGPT?

Neither is better across the board. Claude tends to be preferred for long-document work and for writing that needs little editing; ChatGPT covers far more ground, including image generation and voice, and has a much larger ecosystem. The honest answer depends on which of those you do more.

Can I use both?

Yes, and plenty of people do — often one subscription plus the other's free tier. If you're deciding where a single budget goes, pick based on your most frequent task, not the most impressive demo.

Which is better for coding?

Both are strong. Claude has a dedicated terminal-based coding agent; ChatGPT has broader surrounding tooling. If coding is the main use, the editor-integrated tools are worth comparing too.

Is the free tier enough?

For occasional use, usually yes. The limits bite when you use it daily or paste in large documents. Run a normal week on the free tier before paying for either.
